If you’ve ever had the creative itch to make something that oozes coolness for your home but had no clue where to start or the time and wherewithal to source the supplies (ahem, myself), then Revel is the place for you.

The DIY workshop/drop-in craft bar/private event space opened in June and radiates style with its blank-canvas look and fun, girly décor accents—think sequins in a glass jar, coffee-table books and inspirational mottos like “Do what you love.” They have a full bar too, so attendees can imbibe a cocktail while working. It’s a little bit party and a whole lot of inspiration.

“We have the supplies laid out for you for each project on beautiful trays. Then you leave here, and you leave the mess here. It’s kind of luxurious to be able to do that,” says owner Sarah Van Dyke.

“We scout for inspiration in magazines, Instagram [and] Anthropologie and say, ‘Why couldn’t we make that for a cheaper price?’” Past workshop projects have included dip-dye cloth napkins, watercolor painting, and photo and floral styling. Costs range from $30 to $60. The drop-in craft bar is open most weekdays and on selected weekend hours and all projects—think tassel necklaces, string art wall décor and cute keychains—are $12 each.

“We’re adding another thing in the arsenal of things to do here in downtown Madison,” says Van Dyke. “And people are excited about it.”
