The DIY Designer: Easy fall tablescape – Nooga.com

In decorating, there are many things I struggle with. Just like with any other job, I have my strengths and weaknesses. I can come up with a wonderfully patterned accent wall in no time. But seasonal tablescapes? Not so much.

With the current décor overload on Pinterest, it can easily get overwhelming when you actually go to decorate for the seasons. In the past, I saw so many elaborate tablescapes and always tried to pull one of those off. They just weren’t me, though, and I think that’s why it never worked out very well. So this year, with the exception of some fresh flowers, I used what I already had on hand to get my dining room ready for fall. I didn’t buy a single new thing.

To start with, I just used simple white square placemats. On top of those, I pulled out my navy with green rim dining plates and layered my purple napkins with green monogramming on top of that.

Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you have to use orange everywhere! I opted to use my purple napkins. The napkin rings also double as bud vases. (Photo: Jenna LaFevor)

Who says you have to use orange in your fall decorating? Go with deeper colors you already have! The acrylic napkin rings actually double as bud vases, so that was another easy way to add more color into the place settings.

In the center of the table are the ribbon-wrapped pumpkins I made a few years back using Dollar Tree pumpkins. They are a really easy fall DIY project—and also very affordable!

The “vase” is actually a brass pitcher from a thrift store that I’ve had for a while. I tied in the color of the napkins with the centerpiece by using some purple blooms in the pitcher.

Jenna LaFevor rants on at Rain on a Tin Roof about DIY projects, junk décor, thrifty finds, crafty creations and other decorating dilemmas. She went to UTC, where she got a teaching degree that now collects dust. When she isn’t trying to keep her kid from climbing out of the circus ring or making sure her husband’s shirts are taken to the dry cleaners so she gets out of ironing, she can be found with a paintbrush in one hand and a cheap beer in the other.
