The undersea electricity cable that supplies power to Kangaroo Island off the South Australian coast is due to be replaced in the next two to three years.

South Australian Power Networks has called for alternative energy proposals that can match the replacement cost of the cable.

A new report that suggests that 86 per cent of the island’s power could be supplied by renewable technology for a similar cost and that over the long-term, a 100 per cent renewable option would be cost effective.

What will be the future power source for the island?
